Book Review- The Lion and the Bird
Updated: Aug 23
By Marianne Dubuc
Friendships are easy to make, hard to sustain. With the passage of time, showing up and being there for each other is harder and harder. But if you can find friends willing to do that, it can lead to a fulfilling and deeply satisfying relationship.
This is the story of friendship which is unlikely at best. One autumn evening a lion finds a wounded bird. He nurses the bird back to health all through winter and they develop a friendship which is nurturing and satisfying for both. The lion which seems to be lonely and the bird whose flock has flown away have found in each other kindred spirits who show up for each other.
But when winter turns to spring, the Lion knows that it’s time for the bird to leave. And just like that we get into some of the most stunning pages of visual art with white blank pages showing both the passage of time and longing.
An almost wordless book but so much is said through the visuals. When the seasons turn, will the bird return to find her friend?
Ideal for kids aged 3+yrs
