Humour is one of the toughest genres to crack. There is so much that can go wrong and very little that can get the chuckle from your audience. This book is fun, humour and quirk done well and frankly, we love it!
The King is a jolly good fellow who seems overall pleased with his life and has the countenance of a saint. The only thing that can cause havoc in his life - a chapati which is not well made. What’s well made you ask? Well, it needs to be round, fluffy, soft and just right. The entire world of the dear old king collapses and pushes him to a dark corner when his Chief Chapati Maker (that's a royal title, if you may) quits for a higher calling!
The queen has daunting pursuits of her own and isn't one to obsess over a chapati of all things. But she is a problem solver, and hence announces a Grand Chapati Contest. This contest turns into a big fest of sorts with lots of competitors aiming for the high prize. Meena, the daughter of a peanut seller and her parents are there at the competition too, trying to sell peanuts to all bystanders.
But when all else fails, can Meena and her amazing mother help save the day? This author-illustrator duo are one of our favourites and the illustrations here are so well executed. Read this for a dose of good humour and I’d suggest spending some extra time on the detailing in the illustrations.
