“Every year the forest grows smaller.

Every year, old friends go missing.

Every year, the dangers grow in number.”

Elephants are a keystone species- they play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of their ecosystem, with little ecological redundancy. India has identified multiple elephant corridors, but like many developing countries, its developmental needs often overshadow the needs of other sentient beings.

This is the story of one such group of elephants making their way through the forest to their watering hole. Led by the formidable matriarch, Rani, they undertake this journey every year, losing a bit more of their forest and many of their friends each time.

Sweeping images of barren land, forests overtaken by buildings and construction, and forest land repurposed for crops reveal the harsh reality these gentle giants face.

Narrated by the mother of the littlest calf, Mari, this story highlights the stark reality of human impact on a fragile ecosystem, driving many species to extinction. It serves as a reminder that we are not the sole inhabitants of this planet and it’s time we treated our world with greater care and respect.

Ideal for ages 3+ years
