Lights out is a story which gives me much hope. Hope that the sense of community, the collective goodness and above all a sense of doing right prevails.
A street light might not seem like much, we hardly give it a thought but in this little village, it is of utmost importance. People and their routines are dependent on this light.
One evening though the lights don’t go on, coz there nestled in the junction box of the street light - is a tiny nest with eggs in it. Worried they might disturb it or even harm it, Karthik and his dad decide not to switch on the light.
Lots of chaos and confusion reigns with people weighing the pros and cons of saving a bird and her babies or rather not having their lives impended by darkness.
Do they manage to save the bird? Does the community truly come together for a cause?
Children’s books are mostly bathed in the most brightest of colours and the idea is to make it appealing for the littles. This one stays true to the element of darkness and is washed in blues and blacks- a stunning palette if I may say so. The palette and the illustrations is one of the key elements to this story. We have been endlessly intrigued by the art.
This one remains one of our favourite reads this year, mostly because we love birds and blues but also because it tries to hero the Sparrows which are at fear of being endangered.
Loosely Based on a true story. We love!
