Book Review- Kafka and the Doll
Written by Larissa Theule
Illustrated by Rebecca Green
“Everything you love, you will eventually lose, but in the end, love will return in a different form”- from the original story of Kafka and the travelling doll.
A poignant premise, this story is an adaptation inspired from true events. Kafka is strolling through a park when he meets young Irma crying over her lost doll, soupsy. To soothe the little one, Kafka tells her that her doll is not lost but merely travelling and that he is a volunteer postman assigned to bring her soupsy’s letters.
Over the next few weeks, through the letters from Kafka, Irma gets to know that soupsy has been travelling, hiking and having an adventure. She assures Irma that she is always in her heart. The letters help Irma overcome the pain of loss of a dear one.
Beautiful book on random acts of kindness and it’s ripples which sometimes last a lifetime. Soupsy’s adventures put Irma on her very own path of adventures, all because a stranger couldn’t walk past a crying child. A beautiful message and almost a tearjerker.
Ideal for kids aged 5+yrs
