Book Review- Chitty- A dog & her forest farm

This is a heartwarming tale of Chitty, an abandoned puppy found during a heavy monsoon, who is adopted and brought to a farm nestled in the Western Ghats. The story spans the 13 monsoons Chitty spent with the author, depicting the deep bond between them. Chitty becomes much more than just a pet; he is a loyal companion, a trusted friend, and a source of comfort.

The narrative offers a serene exploration of life on the farm, highlighting the beauty of everyday adventures and the occasional moments of solitude. Chitty, an Indie dog, quickly adapts to farm life, engaging in playful pursuits like chasing langurs. Through his gentle nature and love for stargazing, readers gain insight into the soulful character of this remarkable dog.

Interwoven with Chitty’s story is a reflection on sustainable living and the interconnectedness of all life. The book subtly reminds us that we are all part of a greater cycle, and our time here is fleeting, yet meaningful.

Everyone who has ever had a pet will tell you that life after them is never the same again. This had me teary eyed and had the child longing for a pet just like Chitty.

The book’s illustrations beautifully capture the atmosphere of the Western Ghats, from the lush monsoons to the tranquil moments on the farm. The vivid imagery, especially the image of Chitty gazing up at the starry sky, will probably stay with me forever.

Ideal for kids aged 5 and up.
