If I Were You, follows Sarah McMillan in her pursue of the truth about what happened to Rebecca, the writer of a stack of erotic and enthralling personal journals she stumbled upon. She immerses herself in Rebecca’s life and is drown to two sexy men (Chris and Mark) when she realizes she’s following Rebecca’s path. She gets too far gone into one of the men, who seems to promise to tend to her dark desires and has her bound to his confidence and need for control.
The two novellas, The Master Undone and My Hunger, are told from Rebecca’s Master’s point of view, and spin off into another romance where two Alpha personalities clash.
The reason I’m doing an overall review of these three books is that I didn’t really like any of them. All three get barely two stars each in my book. And the only reason they get to two, is that the mystery got me curious. Just not enough to go through with the series; following Sarah in her digging was a little interesting, but since there wasn’t much of it going on and there was mostly swooning and all-that-jazz the interesting factor just ended there. So I skipped book two.
On we go to the novellas. The Master Undone has no depth whatsoever; maybe because it’s just a novella and is short, but it seems that if Ms. Jones was opting to use these book and do a follow up in My Hunger, there should be more character development, and we should have gotten a little bit more on the reasons and emotions behind the actions. The Master Undone is a lot about the narrator telling us how he feel and how he is not, but not about the real him.
And finally (FINALLY!) My Hunger, which follows up in The Master Undone, and is just as flat. Both books together could have been an interesting spin off of the series, certainly a little more interesting relationship-wise than the main series, but separate, they are just blah.
Ultimately, the fact that these three books separately didn’t even warrant their own review for me, should tell you exactly how I felt about the series. If not, let me just tell you: DON’T; I didn’t like it at all.
