Six Seconds by Rick Mofina

4.5 Stars (4.5 / 5)

A magnificent wave of stories converging and diverging in a series of events that may blow your mind.

Mr. Mofina tells three stories; the one about a woman in quest for revenge and a place in paradise, who lost her husband and child in a brutal way, saves the life of an American contractor in Iraq and follows him to USA, with the secret objective of avenging her family’s death; the one about a woman looking for her child, who vanished one afternoon with his father; and the one of a Canadian detective in search for redemption, who is haunted by his own failure. The three strangers collide in a plot to change the word, and they only have Six Seconds.

Is not exactly the originality of the plot what makes this story amazing but the way it’s told. The emotion is well portrayed and we find ourselves connecting with each of the characters and moving to the edge of our seats as the story unravels. The strangers are linked thoroughly and slowly, while depicting their background and motives; and the emotions behind their motives, making the characters tug at your heart painfully and becoming alive within the page-turning plot.

Although a little predictable, the ending fits the story perfectly and unfolds correctly within the story. While sometimes implausible Six Seconds is a wonderful read, fast paced and emotionally trying.
